Scrap dealers at Agbogbloshie Old Fadama in the Odododiodio constituency have expressed their dissatisfaction with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, vowing to vote against the party in the upcoming elections.
The dealers attribute their decision to the government’s failure to develop the land from which they were evicted during a demolition exercise led by then Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey. They claim the site, once a thriving scrap yard, has since been turned into a dumping ground, adversely affecting their livelihoods.
Speaking to Citi News, the Chairman of the Scrap Dealers Association, Ussif Mahama, lamented the impact of the eviction.
“The demolition of the scrap yard harmed us a lot, and we are not happy about what they did to us. It is very painful to sack scrap dealers and turn the land into a dumping site. We are only praying that the NDC comes back to power so that we can return.”
The dealers have resolved to support the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the upcoming elections, hoping for policies that will address their grievances and restore their trade.
