Immigration officials in the Akatsi North District of the Volta Region intercepted three booklets of ballot papers on Thursday, December 5, during a routine operation at Hevi, an unapproved border route known for irregular activities. Each booklet contained 1,000 sheets, totaling 3,000 ballot papers.

Abraham Ahiabu, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Constituency Secretary for Akatsi North, was identified as the individual in possession of the seized materials. He claimed the ballot papers were for voter education purposes. However, during further questioning, he admitted to having an additional 20,000 ballot booklets, raising suspicions about their intended use.

The materials were allegedly being transported to Vodome in neighboring Togo, heightening concerns due to the use of an unapproved route, especially so close to Ghana’s general elections.

Mr. Ahiabu has been handed over to the Ghana Police Service at the Akatsi North District headquarters for further investigation. The intercepted ballot papers have been forwarded to the District Electoral Commission for authentication.

Authorities are intensifying their investigation to ensure the integrity of Ghana’s electoral process. Updates on the case are expected as the inquiry progresses.
