The Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of the Interior, has declared Friday, December 6, 2024, a statutory public holiday in honor of the annual Farmers’ Day celebration. In a statement signed by the sector Minister, Henry Quartey, citizens were urged to observe the day as a public holiday across the country.

This year’s Farmers’ Day celebration, the 40th edition, was commemorated earlier on November 8, 2024. The decision to hold the event in November instead of the traditional first Friday of December was made to avoid conflict with the upcoming general elections. Despite the early commemoration, December 6 remains designated as the statutory holiday for Farmers’ Day.

The theme for this year’s celebration was “Building Climate-Resilient Agriculture for Sustainable Food Security,” emphasizing the importance of adapting agricultural practices to mitigate climate change impacts while ensuring food security. The public holiday underscores the nation’s commitment to recognizing and appreciating the contributions of farmers to Ghana’s development.
