Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has officially launched Ghana’s new Digital Border Control System and e-gates at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) in Accra. The groundbreaking system, introduced on December 3, 2024, was developed locally, marking a significant leap in modernizing the nation’s border management.

The system incorporates artificial intelligence, biometrics, and real-time data processing to streamline airport procedures. Holders of the Ghanacard can now use the e-gates for quick, automated entry without requiring manual immigration checks. Additionally, members of the diaspora and international visitors can pre-register their biometric and travel details for a seamless experience.

Dr. Bawumia emphasized Ghana’s leadership in integrating biometric verification and Digital Travel Credentials (DTCs) on a single platform, positioning the country as a global pioneer in intelligent border control.
