Mavis Hawa Koomson, the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East and a candidate in the upcoming elections, took on the role of a party agent for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) during the ongoing special voting exercise.

Arriving early at the polling station before the Electoral Commission officially commenced the process, Koomson wore a name tag identifying her as an NPP party agent in the constituency.

In an interview with 3news.com, Koomson explained her decision to actively participate in the process despite her extensive experience in the constituency’s elections.

“This is my fourth time contesting for the Awutu Senya East parliamentary seat, but I don’t want to treat it as routine. I’m a party agent today because I want to be part of the entire process. I’m not taking any chances,” she said.

Koomson first entered the political scene in 2012 when she won the NPP’s primaries and subsequently defeated the NDC’s Nuhu Adams, who was the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Awutu Senya East. She retained her seat in 2016 with a margin of over 11,000 votes.

However, in 2020, her victory margin narrowed to 5,000 votes, as the NDC’s Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunnor gained ground. The two rivals face off again in the current elections, with Koomson determined to ensure a smooth and fair electoral process.
