A tragic fire in Axim, located in the Western Region, has claimed the lives of three family members and left three others in critical condition.
The fire broke out in the early hours of Wednesday, rapidly engulfing a residential building and trapping its occupants inside. Eyewitnesses reported hearing desperate cries for help as the flames consumed the structure, offering little opportunity for escape.
The Fire Service quickly responded to extinguish the blaze. However, by then, three individuals had already perished, and several others were critically injured. The survivors were rushed to the Axim Government Hospital, where they are being treated for severe burns and smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by both the Fire Service and the Police, who are working to determine the circumstances of the incident.
In response to the tragedy, the NPP Parliamentary Candidate for the area, Catherine Afeku, has begun efforts to airlift the injured victims to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for more specialized care.
