World’s Oldest Man, John Tinniswood, Passes Away at 112

Guinness World Records has confirmed the death of John Tinniswood, the world’s oldest living man, at the age of 112. He passed away on Monday, November 25, at the Hollies Care Home in Southport, England, where he had lived for several years.

In a statement, his family said, “His last day was surrounded by music and love,” and extended gratitude to the many carers, NHS staff, and others who supported John throughout his life.

Born on August 26, 1912, in Liverpool, John lived through some of history’s most significant events. He married his wife, Blodwen, in 1942, and they had one daughter, Susan. During World War II, he served in the Royal Army Pay Corps, where he managed finances, organized food supplies, and helped locate stranded soldiers.

After the war, John worked in accounts for Shell and BP until his retirement in 1972.

John was known for his modesty, attributing his record-breaking longevity to “pure luck.” He advocated for moderation in all aspects of life, emphasizing balance as the key to health.

John cherished many memories, particularly his marriage to Blodwen, which lasted 44 years until her death in 1986. From ages 100 to 110, he received birthday cards annually from Queen Elizabeth II. He became the world’s oldest living man in April 2024, following the death of Venezuela’s Juan Vicente Pérez.

An avid Liverpool F.C. fan, John witnessed the team’s historic victories, including eight FA Cups and 17 league titles during his lifetime.

John’s advice to younger generations was simple yet profound:
“Always do the best you can, whether you’re learning something or teaching someone. Give it all you’ve got.”

Reflecting on the changes in the world during his lifetime, John remarked that while modern travel had made the world smaller, much remained unchanged.

John is survived by his daughter Susan, four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. His family described him as intelligent, brave, and an inspiration to those who knew him, including residents and staff at his care home.

John Tinniswood’s life, marked by resilience, humility, and wisdom, will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege to know him.
