Ghanaian sports journalist Saddick Adams has disclosed that three senior players of the Black Stars have decided not to return to the national team. This decision comes in the wake of a controversial video involving Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku.
In the video, Okraku was seen reprimanding the team after a 1-1 draw against Niger during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. He remarked that 5 of the Niger’s players could not even make his Ghana Premier League side, Dreams FC.
The players, reportedly based in England and France, have cited dissatisfaction with the treatment they received and the public nature of the criticism as reasons for their decision.
Ghana failed to qualify for the AFCON for the first time in 20 years, a significant blow to the country’s football legacy. The Black Stars did not win a single match in the qualifiers, leading to widespread criticism of the team’s performance and the GFA’s management.
