The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has dissolved the Black Stars Management Committee following the team’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The decision, made during an Executive Committee meeting on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, was announced in a press statement the following day. The GFA expressed gratitude to the committee members for their contributions to Ghanaian football over the years.
“We announce the immediate dissolution of the Management Committee of the senior national football team, the Black Stars. In doing so, we sincerely thank the members of the Committee for their service to Ghana Football over the years,” the statement read.
The committee, led by Chairman Mark Addo and Vice Chairman Akwesi Agyeman, had faced criticism for its limited involvement in key matches. Reports indicated frequent absences by committee members, including Mark Addo and Akwesi Agyeman, during crucial qualifiers, with Randy Abbey often stepping in as delegation leader.
Ghana’s failure to qualify for AFCON marks a significant setback, ending a 21-year streak of consistent tournament participation. The Black Stars finished last in Group F, behind Niger, Sudan, and Angola, missing the tournament for the first time since 2002.
This latest disappointment adds to a series of poor performances, including group stage exits in the last two AFCON tournaments, leaving fans disheartened.
The GFA has acknowledged the team’s struggles, issued an apology to Ghanaians, and vowed to implement measures to improve future performances.
