Black Stars coach Otto Addo has dismissed calls for his resignation following Ghana’s disappointing performance in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, culminating in a 2-1 loss to Niger.
Speaking after the match, Addo maintained his resolve to remain in his position, emphasizing his personal journey and dedication to the national team. He rejected the notion of stepping down under pressure, asserting his commitment to pushing the team forward.
“I’m not someone who resigns under pressure. If I had that mindset, I wouldn’t have made it as a player or coach. Those calling for my resignation don’t understand where I’ve come from to reach this point,” he stated.
Addo acknowledged the team’s difficulties but highlighted some positive individual performances. He also urged the media and fans to support the players rather than criticize them, noting the impact of narratives on morale.
“We started okay but conceded from a set piece, something we were prepared for. There’s work to be done, especially on set-piece defense. Still, some players showed promise today. The media has the power to shape narratives, and I urge you to lift these players instead of tearing them down,” he remarked.
Addo also called for calm and unity, particularly with Ghana approaching its December elections, emphasizing the need for peace in challenging times.
