Ibrahim Mahama Donates $25,000 for Kidney Transplant of 13-Year-Old Girl

Ibrahim Mahama, CEO of Engineers & Planners Ltd and Dzata Cement, has come to the aid of 13-year-old Rosemond Boadu, a kidney patient in need of a transplant, by donating $25,000 to cover the procedure. Rosemond, from the Oti Region, has faced a challenging battle with her condition, requiring frequent dialysis sessions that have interrupted her education and affected her dream of becoming a doctor.

Mr. Mahama’s Special Aide, Rafik Mahama, confirmed the donation, stating that the funds were transferred promptly, allowing Rosemond and her family to move to Accra for the necessary treatment. Previously, Rosemond had appealed to the public for help, hoping to avoid a lifetime on dialysis. Mr. Mahama’s support offers her a chance for a brighter and healthier future.

This act of generosity also underscores the broader issues surrounding the cost of kidney treatment in Ghana. In June, the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) announced coverage for two dialysis sessions per month at GH¢491 each for patients aged 18 to 59 at government facilities. However, this subsidy does not currently cover younger patients like Rosemond, highlighting the need for broader healthcare support for all age groups.
