Police are investigating a violent confrontation in Abetifi, Eastern Region, that left six people injured on Thursday. The clash erupted after Obaapanyin Yaa Asantewaa, known as the Abrewatia, and a group of armed men entered the Abetifi Palace with the intention of destooling Kwahu Adontenhene Akyemfour Asiedu Agyemang III, who is also acting President of the Kwahu Traditional Area.

The armed group, initially thought by locals to be National Security operatives, escorted Yaa Asantewaa to the palace, where they detained Asiedu Agyemang III. They then moved him to a nearby palace, where Yaa Asantewaa performed traditional rites, including the ritual slaughtering of a sheep, to symbolically destool him.

This attempted destoolment enraged local youth, who viewed it as an insult to their chief. In response, they gathered with machetes, prepared to defend the chief. However, security personnel intervened promptly, preventing further violence. Yaa Asantewaa was detained, and authorities confirmed that several others involved in the incident would face court proceedings.

According to Adom News reporter Akwasi Dwamena, police continue to manage the situation to ensure peace in the community.
