Equatorial Guinea Official Baltasar Ebang Engonga Dismissed, New Director Appointed

Equatorial Guinea’s President, Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, has dismissed Baltasar Ebang Engonga from his role as Director General of the National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF) following his involvement in a major s#x scandal and subsequent imprisonment on corruption charges. This dismissal was formalized by presidential decrees issued on November 6, 2024.

Zenón Obiang Obiang Avomo, an experienced legal professional and former magistrate at the Court of Accounts, has been appointed as Engonga’s successor. Avomo, a graduate of the National University of Equatorial Guinea, has held various high-ranking government positions, including roles within the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Mines, Industry, and Energy.
