The Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG), has announced a nationwide strike starting Thursday, November 7, 2024, due to unresolved issues surrounding a new salary structure for its members.
According to Dr. Isaac Bampoe Addo, head of CLOGSAG, the association had previously issued a notice on October 23, calling for the government to finalize and implement the salary structure by January 1, 2025. The deadline expired on October 31, and despite numerous discussions, the government has yet to provide a firm response.
In a statement, CLOGSAG expressed frustration with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), accusing it of acting in bad faith. As a result, the association has decided to sever all dealings with the FWSC, citing continued delays as detrimental to its members’ welfare.
“Due to the delay in finalizing the salary structure and other conditions of service, CLOGSAG members have no choice but to stay home from November 7, 2024,” the statement said.
The strike is expected to impact government operations nationwide, as CLOGSAG members include vital civil and local government staff.
