Rev. Lawrence Tetteh Apologizes to University of Ghana Over HIV Remarks

Rev. Dr. Lawrence Tetteh, founder of the Worldwide Miracle Outreach, has issued an apology to the University of Ghana (UG) following controversial statements he made on GTV’s Breakfast Show on October 24, 2024. During the broadcast, Rev. Dr. Tetteh claimed that a significant number of UG students were HIV-positive, attributing this to alleged promiscuous behavior on campus, stating, “The number of young boys and girls in Legon, who are HIV positive, would shock you.”

UG responded by emphasizing the need for evidence-based discussions on HIV/AIDS to avoid causing fear or stigma. The university underscored that only scientific diagnosis can determine HIV status, urging public figures to avoid statements that lack factual evidence.

In a statement dated October 29, Rev. Dr. Tetteh expressed regret, clarifying that he did not intend to spread fear or stigmatize UG students.

He explained that his comments were based on his experiences in youth counseling and aimed to highlight broader societal issues affecting young people.

Acknowledging the unintended impact, Rev. Dr. Tetteh extended his sincere apologies to UG and the public for any distress his remarks may have caused.
