Grammy Award-winning rapper Lil Durk, legally known as Durk Devontay Banks, has been arrested in Broward County, Florida, on a murder-for-hire charge, as reported by CBS News and the BBC. The 33-year-old artist, held without bail, was detained following recent charges against five associates linked to his hip-hop collective, Only The Family (OTF), in connection with a fatal 2022 shooting in Los Angeles.
The incident involved an attack on a car carrying rapper Quando Rondo, his sister, and cousin Saviay’a Robinson. Robinson died in the shooting, allegedly motivated by retaliation for the 2020 death of King Von, an OTF member. The new indictment alleges that participants were offered money and potential music deals within OTF for targeting Rondo’s group.
Lil Durk, a central figure in Chicago’s drill rap scene, has enjoyed widespread success, including six top-five albums on the US Billboard charts and collaborations with major artists like Drake and J Cole. Despite past charges, including a 2019 Atlanta case where attempted murder charges were dropped, Lil Durk’s legal troubles continue, with the BBC awaiting a statement from his representatives.
