Dr. Frank Bekoe, the Director of Public Health at the GHS, confirmed the figures and outlined ongoing efforts to manage the outbreak. “We have 37 confirmed cases from Ada East and six from Ada West. Since the outbreak began, we’ve recorded two deaths. We are working to ensure early detection of cases and tracking contacts to prevent further spread,” Dr. Bekoe stated.
The outbreak has raised concerns due to the nature of cholera, a highly contagious disease caused by the *Vibrio cholerae* bacteria. It is transmitted through the consumption of contaminated food and water, especially in areas with poor sanitation. Symptoms include severe diarrhoea, vomiting, and dehydration, which can rapidly result in death if not treated promptly.
Health officials are intensifying efforts to monitor the situation closely and are urging residents in the affected areas to take necessary precautions, including improving sanitation and ensuring access to clean water.
