Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, the Vice Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has reassured trainee nurses that the government is making every effort to ensure the timely payment of their allowances. Speaking at the Korle-Bu Nursing and Midwifery Training College in the Greater Accra Region, Dr. Prempeh underscored the NPP’s commitment to maintaining the allowances, which were previously canceled under the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

While acknowledging that delays in the payment of allowances may occasionally occur, he emphasized that delayed payments are far better than the complete removal of allowances, as experienced under the NDC. “There may be delays, but allowances delayed are better than allowances canceled,” he stated.

Dr. Prempeh reiterated the NPP’s dedication to enhancing the welfare and professional opportunities of trainee nurses, highlighting their critical role in the healthcare sector.

The students at the institution expressed their awareness of the importance of their votes in the upcoming December 7 elections, noting their support for NPP policies such as the Free SHS programme and initiatives like Agenda 111, which aims to build hospitals across the country, providing future employment opportunities for healthcare professionals. The promise of a stable power supply was also a key issue influencing their support for the NPP.
