FIFA Rankings: Black Stars Slip to 73rd Globally, 14th in Africa Following Poor October Window

The Black Stars of Ghana have dropped to 73rd place in the latest FIFA Coca-Cola World Rankings, falling three spots from their previous position after a winless October international window. This marks a continued decline for the four-time African champions, who now sit 14th in Africa.

Ghana’s slip in the rankings follows disappointing performances in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, where the team drew and lost against Sudan earlier this month. This poor run extends to earlier setbacks against Angola and Niger, further affecting their standing.

With these results, the Black Stars are at risk of missing the 2025 AFCON tournament in Morocco, as they remain winless in Group F of the qualifiers. In contrast, Comoros, one of Ghana’s World Cup qualifying opponents, saw a significant rise, jumping ten places in the global rankings.

Argentina maintains its position as the top-ranked team globally, followed by France, Spain, England, and Brazil. In Africa, Morocco continues to lead, with Senegal, Egypt, Nigeria, and Algeria rounding out the continent’s top five.

Ghana’s final challenge in the qualifiers will come next month as they face Angola and Niger, hoping to revive their fortunes.
