Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, reflected on his personal hardships during a meeting with creative industry stakeholders on October 16, 2024.

Responding to dancehall artist Shatta Wale’s plea to support underprivileged youth, Bawumia revealed that he once worked as a farm laborer, taxi driver, and cleaner, expressing empathy for those facing similar challenges.

Speaking in pidgin English, Bawumia emphasized his dedication to helping vulnerable communities, highlighting his roles as patron of Leper’s Aid Ghana and Mother Teresa’s Soup Kitchen, organizations that support lepers and street children. His commitment to helping the disadvantaged, he said, is central to his work.

The meeting also showcased the NPP’s plans for the arts and creative sector if elected in December 2024, with proposals including tax incentives, travel protocol services, e-visas for visitors, and online streaming platforms aimed at supporting the industry’s growth.
