Ghana’s Black Stars resumed their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers with a frustrating 0-0 draw against Sudan in the first leg of their doubleheader on Thursday at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Coach Otto Addo fielded a youthful and energetic team, with Ibrahim Sulemana making his debut start. Ghana began brightly, nearly scoring in the fifth minute when Alexander Djiku’s header struck the crossbar following a Mohammed Kudus cross. However, Sudan grew into the game, matching Ghana’s intensity.
Ghana came close again in the 16th minute, but Antoine Semenyo’s shot was saved by Sudan’s goalkeeper, Mohammed Mustapha. Despite dominating possession, Ghana struggled to convert set-piece opportunities, while Sudan’s defense remained resolute.

lkeeper made crucial saves, denying Mohammed Kudus and Inaki Williams. Sudan had a rare scoring opportunity in the 71st minute, but Ghana’s goalkeeper, Lawrence Ati Zigi, kept them at bay.
Despite late efforts from Ghana, including a missed free kick by Kudus and a blocked shot by Williams, the game ended in a goalless draw. The result leaves Ghana winless and in third place with just two points from three games.
The Black Stars will face Sudan again in the second leg on Monday, October 14, 2024, at the Martyrs of February Stadium. Ghana will need a win to revive their chances of qualifying for AFCON 2025, set to take place in Morocco.
