Nigerian Producer Breaks World Record with 95-Hour Recording Marathon

A Nigerian music producer, Idem Abasifreke, has set a new world record for the longest recording session, lasting an impressive 95 hours and 59 minutes. The record-breaking session took place at Beatisblaak Studio, starting on February 10, 2024, and was just one minute short of four full days of continuous recording.

Abasifreke’s achievement surpasses the previous record of 40 hours and 19 minutes, also set in Nigeria in 2022. His motivation for this monumental effort was to establish a world record as a music producer while providing a platform for emerging singing and rapping talents.

Reflecting on the experience, Abasifreke expressed, “With the happiness in the faces of the music artists and their willingness to record for an hour each, every day was a new experience filled with music and vibes. I was happy but busy praying for success.”

During the marathon session, Abasifreke and his artists were allowed five minutes of rest for every hour of recording. He mentioned that while he tried to sleep during breaks, he often focused on ensuring everything was running smoothly and that all record attempt guidelines were adhered to.

Interestingly, Abasifreke did not consume any caffeine to stay awake during the 95-hour session, relying instead on his determination and experience from numerous day-and-night recording sessions in the past.

He faced several challenges throughout the attempt, particularly regarding financing and maintaining a stable power supply for the studio. “Electricity was one of the challenges we had because it was coming and going as we tried to keep the power running, and data subscription for our Wi-Fi was getting slow due to the number of people using it,” he explained.

Though they originally aimed to set the record at 100 hours, their timer stopped at exactly 96 hours, 59 minutes, and 59 seconds. Despite the hurdles, Abasifreke expressed that the experience was worth the effort, saying, “It’s a dream come true, and I am still surprised and happy.
