WhatsApp to Allow Tagging of Contacts in Status Updates

WhatsApp is rolling out a new feature allowing users to tag contacts in their status updates, similar to Instagram’s story tagging. Currently available in beta for Android (version 2.24.20.3), this feature lets users mention specific people in their status, sending them private notifications.

Only the tagged contact will know they were mentioned, while other viewers of the status won’t see the tag.

Additionally, tagged contacts can reshare the status update with their audience using a new reshare button, though the original creator’s identity stays hidden.
