The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has detected several malpractices during the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and has pledged to penalize those involved.
These infractions include photocopying and distributing answers to candidates, smuggling foreign materials and mobile phones into exam halls, and teachers aiding in these activities.
WAEC inspectors observed the involvement of supervisors, invigilators, and candidates in these violations.
The Council assured that all offenders would be dealt with according to the regulations governing the exams.
The Council also expressed gratitude to stakeholders who reported attempts to cheat, helping maintain the exam’s integrity.
The 2024 WASSCE, which began on August 5 with Visual Art Project work, concluded on September 20. A total of 460,611 candidates from 1,003 schools sat for the exam at 1,000 centres nationwide.
