The National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced plans to commence Ghana Card registration for minors aged 6 to 14 years, starting from October 7, 2024. This initiative is part of the government’s broader effort to ensure every citizen is included in the national identification system.

The first phase of the registration will be conducted in schools across selected districts, making it easier for parents and guardians to enroll their children. By focusing on schools, the NIA aims to streamline the process and enhance accessibility.

Alfred Gazari, Deputy Director of Operations at the NIA, highlighted the importance of incorporating children into the national database, noting that it is essential for achieving comprehensive identification coverage across the country.

“We have completed registration for those over 15 years and for children under 5 years. This final phase, targeting minors aged 6 to 14, is crucial for ensuring that every Ghanaian is part of the national identification system,” Gazari said.

He added, “Without the Ghana Card, individuals will face difficulties in carrying out important activities, so it’s vital that we include this age group in the process.”
