Residents of Ada, Magazine, Aboabo, Wawase, and Nkurakan clashed with personnel from the Counter Terrorism Unit of the Ghana Police Service during a protest over the poor condition of the Koforidua-Nkurakan road. The demonstration, which occurred on Thursday morning, saw residents blocking the road with tyres, logs, and wooden boxes to express their frustration over the delay in completing the road’s construction.
Clad in red and black attire, the protesters disrupted vehicular movement, leaving commuters stranded. They cited over 10 fatalities, including a student and Okada riders, caused by accidents they attribute to the road’s dangerous condition.
Leaders of the protest, including four assembly members and the Adukrom Akwadum chief Nana Asiedu Oduro, issued a two-week ultimatum to the government to ensure that the contractor returns to complete the project, which began in 2019. The demonstrators warned of further action if no progress is made.
