Eleven additional Democracy Hub protesters, including activist Felicity Nelson, have been denied bail and remain in police custody after their court hearing was adjourned by Circuit Court 6. The court rescheduled the session to Thursday, September 26, 2024, to allow the prosecution time to address the bail applications.
This development raises the total number of remanded protesters to 53, all of whom were arrested during the recent demonstrations held from September 21 to 23, 2024, against illegal mining (galamsey) in Ghana. The protests, organized by Democracy Hub, led to violent clashes with the police at the 37 Intersection in Accra.
Additionally, activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor, a key figure in the Democracy Hub, has been admitted to the Police Hospital following his arrest.
