Atti-Morkwa Paramount Chief Taken to Court Over alleged Involvement in Galamseyy 

The Paramount Chief of the Atti-Morkwa Traditional Area, Oseadeeyo Kwesi Kennin IV, has been taken to court by Kadesh Mining Enterprise, accused of engaging in illegal mining activities, also known as galamsey, on the company’s concession.

A High Court in Kumasi has issued an order for the Chief to halt operations on the land, which legally belongs to Kadesh Mining Enterprise. The mining company claims that despite a pending injunction, the Chief, along with both Ghanaian and Chinese workers, has been unlawfully mining on the concession.

Kadesh Mining holds the proper license for the area and has yet to begin operations, while the Chief is accused of operating without legal authority. The company’s lawyer revealed that private investigations identified the Chief as the mastermind behind the illegal activities.

The lawyer emphasized that Kadesh Mining is the only entity with the legal right to mine on the land, rejecting the Chief’s claims that his position as Paramount Chief grants him control over the concession.

Meanwhile, the Chief’s legal team has requested that the case be moved to the Central Region, where the alleged activities occurred. However, Kadesh Mining’s counsel argues that since two defendants reside in Kumasi, the case should remain in the Ashanti Region. The defense lawyer has declined to comment further on the matter.
