The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Upper East Region has raised alarms over alleged irregularities in the voter register, accusing the Electoral Commission (EC) of compromising the integrity of the electoral process.
According to the NDC, 5,138 voter names have been duplicated in the EC’s register, and an additional 334 voters were transferred from various locations to the Pusiga constituency without their consent. These concerns suggest possible voter data manipulation or fraud.
Upper East Regional NDC Secretary, Donatus Akamugre, voiced these concerns during a protest in Bolgatanga. He also revealed that 2,094 newly registered voters from 2023 have been deleted from the 2024 provisional register without explanation.
Hundreds of NDC supporters marched through Bolgatanga’s streets, demanding accountability from the EC. They presented a petition to the EC Chairperson, Madam Jean Mensa, through the Upper East Regional Director, William Obeng Adarkwa, urging immediate corrective measures.
Although the EC has suspended an official in Pusiga over unauthorized transfers, Pusiga MP Hajia Lardy Ayamga expressed further concerns, demanding an audit of the voters’ register to address the issue of multiple entries, including voters appearing on both the special and general voters’ lists.
