John Mahama Mourns the Passing of Tech Pioneer Herman Chinery-Hesse

John Dramani Mahama, flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has expressed his condolences over the death of renowned tech entrepreneur Herman Kojo Chinery-Hesse, who passed away on Monday, September 16, 2024, following cardiac arrest.

Chinery-Hesse, often hailed as “the Bill Gates of Africa,” was a trailblazer in Ghana’s tech industry. Born in 1963 in Dublin, Ireland, he founded theSOFTtribe in 1991, which became Ghana’s largest and oldest software company, revolutionizing the country’s digital landscape.

Mahama, in a tribute shared on social media, described Chinery-Hesse as a personal friend and a national hero, stating, “We’ve lost a good man. I’ve lost a friend. This is a great blow to Ghana and our IT fraternity. We must be inspired to produce a million more Hermans. Rest in peace, Herman.”
