Cassius Otoo Larbi, the Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Awutu Senya West constituency, along with two others, has been remanded in police custody by the Awutu Bereku District Court.

Presided over by Her Ladyship Naomi Konto, the court issued the remand after the three were accused of threatening an eyewitness who saw them removing posters belonging to Eugene Kofi Bentum Arhin, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate. The posters had reportedly been taken off a machine being used for the District Road Improvement Project.

The trio is scheduled to appear in court again on Monday, September 16, 2024, after a five-day remand.

Meanwhile, Awutu Senya West’s Member of Parliament, Gizella Tetteh Agbotui, raised concerns about her posters also being removed, calling the case “trivial.” However, the District Chief Executive for Awutu Senya West, Moses Arhinful Acquah, clarified that the issue wasn’t just about the removal of the posters but involved a threat against an eyewitness who tried to stop the group.

Acquah further mentioned a previous incident involving Cassius Otoo Larbi, where he and others allegedly disrupted Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia’s speech at the annual Awubia Festival by playing loud music. This had attracted the attention of national security personnel.
