Soybean Farmers Urge Government to Reverse Grain Export Ban

The Ghana Soybeans Farmers and Aggregators Association has called on the government to urgently reverse its recently announced ban on grain exports.

The association argues that the ban, imposed on August 27 in response to a drought in the northern regions of the country, is detrimental to farmers who rely on grain exports for their livelihoods.

Abdul Hakeem Issah, the Director of Administration for the association, stated that the current situation is not severe enough to justify such a ban.

He criticized the government’s failure to utilize the Buffer Stock system effectively, which was intended to accumulate and store grains during peak seasons for release during lean periods. The association believes that the problem can still be managed without resorting to an export ban.
