Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, has promised to install 50,000 CCTV cameras across key towns in Ghana to improve security and combat crime. During a campaign event in the Dome-Kwabenya constituency, Bawumia highlighted the need for extensive surveillance coverage, as identified by a study from security agencies. He acknowledged that while the government has already begun installing CCTV cameras, many areas remain uncovered.
In addition to the security pledge, Dr. Bawumia emphasized the importance of a “Buy Ghana First” policy, which he believes will create jobs by promoting the consumption of locally produced goods. He also engaged with local clergy, imams, and chiefs during his tour, and was praised by former Speaker of Parliament Mike Ocquaye for his contributions to the party and his intellectual capabilities.
Bawumia reiterated the need for enhanced security measures, stressing that the planned installation of CCTV cameras will provide the police with greater visibility, especially given the limited number of officers in the country.
