The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has confirmed the tragic deaths of three individuals following the collapse of a two-storey building near the Timber Market in Kasoa on Saturday, August 24, 2024.
A joint rescue operation by the Kasoa Fire Service Station and the GNFS Headquarters successfully retrieved four survivors from the debris, who were promptly taken to the hospital for medical attention.
According to Assistant Divisional Officer Alex King Nartey of the GNFS Public Affairs Unit, the building was under construction at the time of its collapse. Among the deceased were two female vocational students, aged 16 and 18, and a carpenter. Additionally, six other individuals received medical treatment and have since been discharged.
The GNFS suspects that structural deficits in the construction process may have contributed to the collapse, though investigations are still ongoing. ADO Nartey urged the public to engage qualified professionals in construction projects to ensure safety and structural integrity.
