“If I do Everything Now, What Would I do When I come into Office” – Bawumia 

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President of Ghana and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, has offered an explanation for his inability to fulfill certain promises while serving as Vice President. His remarks come in response to criticism from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, who have questioned his capacity to deliver on campaign promises if elected, given his current track record.

During a recent media engagement, Dr. Bawumia addressed questions about the delay in implementing key tax reforms, such as tax amnesty, flat rate tax, and import duties. He clarified that his role as Vice President does not grant him full executive authority, thus limiting his ability to execute all his proposed initiatives. He stressed that these plans are reserved for his future presidency.

Dr. Bawumia further illustrated his point by comparing his situation to that of former President John Mahama, who, despite having full presidential powers during his tenure, was unable to accomplish all his goals. He questioned why Mahama, who had complete authority, could not fulfill all his objectives and is now seeking another term in office.

“I must have a manifesto, otherwise if I do everything now, if I could, what would I do when I come into office?” Bawumia stated. He emphasized that the budget passed by Parliament is not his budget but rather the President’s, highlighting the limitations of his current position.
