Liverpool’s Salah Sets Premier League Record in 2-0 Win Over Ipswich Town

Liverpool secured a hard-fought 2-0 victory over newly promoted Ipswich Town in their Premier League opener, marking the beginning of Arne Slot’s tenure as Liverpool head coach. The match, held at a lively Portman Road, saw Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah find the back of the net, with Salah setting a new Premier League record in the process.

The breakthrough came just after the hour mark when Jota calmly side-footed a low cross from Salah past Ipswich goalkeeper Christian Walton, capping off a well-coordinated move that also involved Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Liverpool extended their lead just five minutes later, with Salah converting a pass from Dominik Szoboszlai. This goal marked Salah’s ninth opening-day goal in the Premier League, setting a new record.

Ipswich Town, returning to the top flight after 22 years, put up a strong fight in the first half, coming close to scoring through Jacob Greaves’ header and Omar Hutchinson’s shot. However, Liverpool’s experience and quality shone through in the second half. After Jota missed an early chance, nodding an Alexander-Arnold cross just wide, he quickly made amends with the opening goal. Salah’s strike then sealed the victory, handing Ipswich their first home defeat in nearly a year.
