“Who Are You To Say You Won’t Hand Over Power?” – Rev Matthew Gyamfi Desends on Bryan Acheampong

Most Reverend Matthew Gyamfi, President of the Catholic Bishops Conference, has called on politicians to be mindful of their public statements as the 2024 national elections approach. In an interview with Oyerepa TV on August 14, 2024, Rev. Gyamfi addressed recent comments by the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong, who asserted that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) would not hand over power to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and would do whatever it takes to stay in government.

Rev. Gyamfi emphasized the importance of humility and respect in political discourse, warning that careless remarks could jeopardize the nation’s peace. He urged public officials to consider the broader implications of their words, especially when they hold positions of authority.

He also pointed out that such “arrogant” attitudes have no place in leadership, reminding politicians that their words can have serious consequences for the stability of the country. The bishop’s remarks serve as a caution to political leaders to prioritize the well-being of the nation over partisan interests.
