Bawumia Proposes Extending Driver’s Licence Renewal to 10 Years

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has proposed extending the validity period of driver’s licenses in Ghana to 10 years.

Currently, drivers are required to renew their licenses every two years, a process Bawumia described as inconvenient and unnecessary.

Speaking during his campaign tour in Akwatia, Eastern Region, Bawumia emphasized that the current system creates avoidable hassles for drivers.

He suggested that extending the renewal period to eight or ten years would reduce the frequency of renewals and eliminate the need for drivers to visit the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) so often. “Let’s make sure we can have the driver’s licence without having to go to renew it every year; it doesn’t make sense,” he stated.
