Four Killed, Several Injured Over Land Dispute in Northern Region

Four individuals lost their lives, and several others were injured on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, in Zogbei, Mion district, due to an escalation of a long-standing land dispute between the Dagombas and Konkombas. The violence resulted in gunfire, casualties, and fatalities.

Reports indicate that the conflict led to the deaths of four people and the burning of several motorbikes. The unrest has severely disrupted transportation, blocking road access for travelers between Tamale and Yendi and the surrounding areas.

Zogbei’s strategic location on the main Yendi-Tamale Road underscores the gravity of the situation.

Despite the deployment of security personnel, the atmosphere remains tense, with residents living in fear. In an interview with Citi FM’s Eyewitness News, Alhassan Abubakari, District Chief Executive Officer for Mion Constituency, confirmed that while calm has been restored, the situation was dire earlier in the day.

“Calm is currently restored at our place, but in the morning, it was very difficult for you to even pass from Tamale to Yendi because of the land dispute between the Konkombas and the Nanumbas,” he stated.
