Man Arrested for Alleged Murder of Cattle Herder in North Tongu

A suspect has been apprehended by community members in Alabota, near Dorfor, in the North Tongu district of the Volta Region, in connection with the murder of a cattle herder.

The suspect has been handed over to the local police command. The victim, a Fulani cattle herder, reportedly confronted the suspect over the unjustified killing of one of his cattle.

According to Tse Jupiter Azietor, the assemblyman for the area, the suspect inflicted multiple machete wounds on the herder, leading to his death on Wednesday, July 17. The suspect, identified as Seledzi Dotse, allegedly split the victim’s head in two and fled with one half.

Azietor recounted the incident, stating that on Wednesday morning around 11 a.m., he received a call from an elder in Alabota reporting the murder. The Fulani man’s son had taken the cattle for grazing when the suspect killed one of the animals. The son informed his father, who then confronted the suspect. In response, the suspect began attacking the herder with a machete.

The son ran to get help, but upon their return, they found the herder dead, with part of his head missing. The police arrived and conducted a search but initially could not locate the suspect.
