Chief Justice Revokes Decision to Transfer Jirapa Dubai Murder Case to Kumasi

The Chief Justice, Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, has retracted her previous order to move the murder trial of the Royal Cosy Hills Hotel CEO from the Wa High Court to Kumasi.

This reversal follows objections from the family of the late CEO, Eric Johnson, who argued against the transfer on grounds of public interest and logistical difficulties.

Initially, the Wa High Court, under Judge Yussif Assibey, had paused proceedings on June 12th after receiving a directive from the Chief Justice to relocate the case.

However, due to the family’s protests, the Chief Justice has now decided that the Wa High Court should continue with the trial.

Lead prosecutor, Saed Abdul-Shakur, announced that a case management conference is scheduled for July 18th, with the trial set to begin shortly after.

“Today, when we appeared in court to commence the trial, the High Court judge informed us that the Chief Justice has authorized him to proceed with the trial. Orders were made to hold the case management conference on the 18th, and after that, we will adjourn for the trial to start. So, we are now commencing the trial in Wa.”
