Teacher Remanded After Flogging Pupil to Death in Anambra

One Faith Nwoye, a primary school teacher at Landmark International School in Mgbakwu, Anambra State, Nigeria, has been remanded in a correctional facility following the tragic death of her eight-year-old pupil, Henry Okonkwo, whom she reportedly flogged.

The incident prompted legal action after a petition was filed against the school’s Proprietor, Promise Iloh, and the teacher, by Ojiakor Okonkwo. The case was brought before a special court handling women and children-related matters, where the teacher was remanded.

Commissioner for Education, Prof Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, ordered the immediate closure of Landmark International School pending a thorough investigation into the matter. She assured the public that justice would be pursued vigorously, emphasizing the need to uphold child rights and prevent such incidents in educational settings.
