ECG Transformer Stolen at Bunso, Eastern Region

Unknown individuals have stolen a transformer owned by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) at Bunso in the Fanteakwa South District, Eastern Region.

The 100kVA transformer, valued at GH¢71,000, was taken by unidentified thieves last week near the Bunso Police barrier, adjacent to the police station.

Positioned on the property of the CSIR-Plant Genetic Resources Research Institute and only a short distance from both the Bunso Police Station and the Fire Service command, the transformer is believed to have been stolen while security personnel were on duty.

This theft has caused power outages for these institutions and local households for over a week.

Sources from Channel One News at the Eastern Regional Office of the power distribution company expressed deep concern over the frequent attacks on their infrastructure and are working diligently to replace the stolen transformer, which will incur an additional 20 percent cost.

The management has called on security agencies to be more proactive and vigilant in order to apprehend the criminal elements whose actions pose a threat to reliable power supply.
