I am Proud of My Age – Prof. Opoku-Agyemang Replies Critics

Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the running mate to the NDC’s flagbearer, has addressed critiques from former Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, who questioned her candidacy based on her age.

Reacting to Kyei Mensah Bonsu’s remarks, which many viewed as an effort to undermine her candidacy by focusing on her age instead of her qualifications and achievements, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang expressed confidence and pride in her age.

Speaking to a gathering of female media professionals in Accra, she declared that she is proud of her age. She highlighted that her extensive experience and wisdom accumulated over the years are crucial assets to her role and to the nation.

“Let everyone understand that I am very proud of every minute God has given me, and if He gives me more, I’ll be even more grateful. My life is in His hands, not anyone else’s. I don’t view my age as a hindrance, but as a blessing,” she asserted.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang further challenged her critics, questioning the relevance of their focus on her age. “What else is there to say? Is that all they could say? Did they also say that I was corrupt? Why couldn’t they say that I was insulting people?”

She urged the public to see such criticisms as unnecessary distractions. “A lot of these things are unnecessary and unproductive distractions. Is that all they can say? They should find other forms. What about their own selves? I never claimed to be an angel, but I don’t think I’ve harmed anyone.”
