Ofankor-Nsawam Road Project to Miss July Completion Deadline – Engineer

The resident engineer in charge of the Ofankor-Nsawam road project has indicated that the July 2024 completion deadline will not be met.

Chief Resident Engineer for the Pokuase-Nsawam Highway project, Ing. Kwabena Bempong, stated that the road was initially slated for completion in July 2024, but this target will not be achieved.

This development implies that drivers and passengers will face continued inconvenience as construction on the route experiences further delays.

Speaking to Citi FM on Wednesday, June 19, Ing. Bempong explained that additional time is needed to finish the remaining work on the road.

He emphasized that the contractor has not yet provided a new completion date, as the original timeline is no longer feasible.

“We have asked the contractor to present a revised schedule, and for a project of this magnitude, an extension must be approved by the Ministry of Roads and Highways before we can confirm anything.

“Officially, the completion date remains July, but we acknowledge that this is not attainable. The contractor must provide strong reasons for the delay in meeting the initially planned deadline,” he said.

Ing. Bempong attributed the delay to the necessity of relocating utility lines and compensating those affected by the construction.

“The relocation of utility lines and longitudinal drains are significant factors in the delay. We are moving electricity, water, and communication lines.

“Another challenge is the relocation of individuals impacted by the project. Some are attempting to file injunctions, leading to ongoing legal issues. Despite being two years into the project, some utility lines remain within the road space,” he explained.
