Unified Standards for African Football Clubs: Okraku Advocates Club Licensing

Kurt Okraku, President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has underscored the critical role of club licensing in standardizing African football clubs.

Speaking at the launch of the CAF Club Licensing Regional Workshop in Accra, Okraku highlighted the importance of collective efforts for the advancement of African football.

Addressing representatives from 15 member associations, Okraku emphasized that club licensing is central to the developmental agenda of the continent’s football governing body. He expressed his delight at hosting the event, noting Ghana’s privilege in being chosen to facilitate this significant gathering on behalf of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

“I am thrilled to welcome you all to Accra. Ghana is honored to host this event for CAF,” Okraku stated. “Our President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe, is closely monitoring our progress because club licensing is crucial to his vision for African football development. He has consistently advocated for delivering football at the highest standards.”

Okraku continued, “For CAF to achieve its goals, club licensing is indispensable. This initiative, spearheaded by Mohammed Sidat and his team, marks a significant milestone in our journey.”

The GFA President stressed the workshop’s significance in Accra, reinforcing the collective commitment to enhancing African football. He noted, “Your presence here today signifies our shared mission and vision for the future.”

Okraku reiterated, “Club licensing is vital for establishing unified standards across African football clubs. It ensures clubs meet criteria in infrastructure, financial stability, and player development, driving professionalism and enhancing administration, coaching, and overall club management. It is the foundation for a sustainable and competitive football environment.”
