Man Arrested in New Juaben South for Attempted Double Registration

A man has been apprehended in New Juaben South, located in the Eastern Region, for attempting to register twice during the ongoing voter registration exercise.

The suspect had previously registered in September 2023 but tried to re-register at the Electoral Commission (EC) office on Wednesday, May 8, 2023.

The system flagged the attempt, leading to his immediate arrest. He confessed to the police that he was seeking a replacement for his lost voter ID card and is currently in police custody, assisting with investigations.

Kofi Asante Owusu, the New Juaben South Municipal Director of the Electoral Commission, has cautioned the public against attempting double registration or registering minors, as the biometric system can detect such illegal actions.

He stated that the EC will provide opportunities for replacing lost voter ID cards and advised against re-registering.
