“I Will Not Say I Was the Driver’s Mate” Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang Takes Swipe at Bawumia

Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the running mate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has asserted her commitment to face any challenges that may arise if the NDC is elected in the 2024 election. In a clear jab at Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, she vowed never to disassociate herself from difficulties, contrasting this with Bawumia’s recent statement where he referred to himself as a mere “driver’s mate.”

During her introduction in Accra, the former Education Minister pledged to share in the collective successes and take responsibility for any setbacks that may occur.

She emphasized, “I will share in our collective successes and share responsibility for our setbacks if any.

And at the time of reckoning, Your Excellency John Mahama, I will not in advancement of self-serving ambition declare to the whole world that I was only the driver’s mate.”

This statement comes in response to Dr. Bawumia’s earlier remarks in February 2024, where he mentioned that his role as a “driver’s mate” hindered his effectiveness in dealing with challenges faced by the government.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang’s declaration indicates her readiness to embrace the full scope of her responsibilities if elected, contrasting with what she sees as a dismissive attitude towards previous roles.
