Government Declares April 11 as Public Holiday for Eid-ul-Fitr Celebration

The Government of Ghana has announced Thursday, April 11, as a statutory public holiday to commemorate Eid-ul-Fitr. The Interior Minister, Henry Quartey, issued a statement encouraging all citizens to observe the day.

“Eid-ul-Fitr, which falls on Thursday, April 11, 2024, is hereby declared a statutory public holiday and should be observed as such throughout the nation,” the statement read.

Eid-ul-Fitr is a significant religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide, marking the conclusion of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting. It is observed after 29 or 30 days of dawn-to-sunset fasting during Ramadan.

“The general public is hereby informed that Thursday, April 11, 2024, which marks Eid-ul-Fitr, is a statutory public holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country,” the statement further stated.
