Nigerian music sensation Davido has instructed his legal team to pursue legal action against a media outlet responsible for a misguided April Fool’s prank that has backfired.

The hoax, initially circulated by Kenya’s K24 TV on April 1st, falsely claimed that the Afrobeats star had been arrested in Kenya following the discovery of cocaine on his private jet.

In response to the unfounded report, Davido, who had just concluded a successful East African tour, vehemently refuted the claims as “entirely untrue” and condemned the act as “extremely irresponsible.”

“I have never been arrested in any country for any crime in the world,” Davido clarified on social media. “Not in my home country Nigeria, not in my home in America, nor in any of the numerous countries I’ve visited throughout my career,” he added in a statement posted on X, formerly Twitter.

“I want to assure my fans that these reports are entirely baseless. I completed my scheduled performances in Uganda and Kenya and have since returned home to Nigeria,” Davido reassured his fans.
